Jubilee – Hyndburn’s Woodlands
Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions, this week we will be at Jubilee woodland (Woodnook Vale) carrying out the final woodland condition assessment. Join our Brookside Development Office Alice for a weekly meadow restoration session. Much of the rare and valuable wildflower meadow habitat on site has degraded, but we are working to restore them to their former glory. This is a multi stage project, and the first task is to cut back the overgrown grasses and remove the cuttings, ready for seeds to be planted in Spring! The first sampling session yielded very positive results with both parameters coming back with very low levels of pollutants. Unfortunately, the rest of the UK didn't fare as well with 75% of samples returned with poor ecological health indicators. Join us every Tuesday @1pm (weather permitting) until September 2024. The transects start in Pleck Meadow and go around the whole site, where participants will count and ID every butterfly or bee they see. This data will then be submitted to UKBMS and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust respectively.
