DESCRIPTION:Join The PROSPECTS Foundation and the Weavers Uprising Bicentennial Committee as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Weavers Uprising at Whinney Hill Woodland\, and all of the wonderful biodiversity it now holds! \n200 years ago\, handloom weavers across Lancashire rose up against the introduction of power looms\, which threatened their livelihoods. They first met on a hill in Accrington\, which now stands as Whinney Hill Woodland\, managed by The PROSPECTS Foundation. \nWe will be holding a joint celebration to honour the weavers\, to showcase the wonderful work Prospects has carried out in the woodland\, and to learn about the incredible biodiversity the site now holds. \nJoin us for a free\, family-friendly fun day with performances\, nature-themed demonstrations\, historical talks\, information stalls\, and a monument unveiling by Great Harwood’s Town Crier! \nWe will be meeting at the Accrington Cricket Club Car Park\, Thorneyholme Road\, BB5 5BD. DESCRIPTION:Join Alice for seasonal habitat improvement work (and of course\, biscuits!) at Brookside. \nWe meet at the Noticeboard by the Stanhill Road entrance to the site at 10am – see the map below. \n \nAll are welcome but under 18s must be supervised by an adult. \nWaterproofs\, boots\, and sturdy clothes are highly recommended. \nAccess can be uneven and boggy\, so these sessions are not suitable for those with limited mobility. Balsam can spread and dominate habitats unchecked which vastly reduces biodiversity as it outcompetes native wildflowers and starves pollinators like many solitary bees and butterflies. We will be pulling and/or bashing balsam across the site this summer. \nJoin us for our Hyndburn’s Nature Reserves project! There will be weekly conservation volunteers sessions at Peel Park and the Coppice Local Nature Reserve\, every Monday from 10am – 1pm. Google maps link HERE. \nSite Accessibility – there is a short walk from the cars down a very uneven road. The allotment itself has lots of steps.
