Social Enterprise - 'Trading for the benefit of local people, rather than the benefit of shareholders & owners'

Through our Social Enterprise Development Initiative we set up two new social enterprises, the One Planet shop (a co-op) and Woody (Hyndburn), a community interest company.  Since they were established PROSPECTS provided ongoing support for both enterprises until 2019 when One Planet became fully independent of PROSPECTS.  We still support Woody.

Woody (Hyndburn) C.I.C. is a woodland management social enterprise set up by PROSPECTS in 2012 to help pro-actively manage woodlands in Hyndburn.  Woody is run entirely by volunteers and tenders for woodland management contracts in Hyndburn.

The One Planet Co-operative was set up by PROSPECTS in 2010 and has been trading in Accrington ever since and now has over 170 members. As well as being a retail outlet that sells Fairtrade, ethical, organic and environmentally friendly products it also delivers outreach work in the local community.
