The PROSPECTS Foundation was originally set up as a charity to support the work and ideas of 8 local environmental panels established in each of the townships in Hyndburn – Accrington, Baxenden, Church, Clayton-le-Moors with Altham, Great Harwood, Huncoat, Oswaldtwistle and Rishton. Over time some of these panels have lapsed and we are currently only supporting 4 active Panels.
Each active panel has a representative elected onto our Management Committee. The panels carry out local environmental projects in their areas and encourage local people to play an active role in improving their neighbourhoods. The panels are all community groups in their own right made up of local residents, or those with an interest in a particular area, and membership is open to anyone. Each member brings something to the group, whether it be local knowledge or technical expertise and by harnessing these skills and experience, the panels are able to identify local environmental needs and respond by working to develop locally owned projects, which contribute to environmental sustainability.
We are currently applying for funding to re-look at the panel structure and to try and re-ignite the local passion for environmental concerns and encourage more people to get involved. Our aim is to re-invigorate some of the existing panels and to re-establish some of the ones that have fallen by the way.
