THE WINDFALL FUND

The Windfall Fund has been established from proceeds from the Hyndburn wind farm on Oswaldtwistle Moor. It is the community benefit fund provided by EnergieKontor, the wind farm developer.  The wind farm became operational in November 2012 and The PROSPECTS Foundation secured an agreement with EnergieKontor to manage the Fund on their behalf for the lifetime of the wind farm. This means money is available for environmental projects in Hyndburn for at least the next 15 - 20 years!

The Windfall Fund itself was launched in April 2013 and since then we have held 35 funding rounds for Small and Large projects and funded 116 projects. 77 Mini projects have also received funding. In total we have awarded over £780,000 in grants to local community groups in Hyndburn for environmental projects. In terms of our Themes of Sustainability we have funded 37 x Environmental Awareness; 63 x Improving Biodiversity; 11 x Waste & Recycling; 13 x Energy Saving, 60 x Local Food and 9 x Sustainable Travel projects.

We also run visits for schools and other community groups to have a look round the wind farm, to get up close and personal with the wind turbines and look at the moorland management that has been taking place on Oswaldtwistle Moor to improve this valuable habitat.
