Brookside Volunteer Workparty (Thursday Gang)

Above Pleck Meadow, there are a number of Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) which need to be removed. The shrubs are cotoneaster and non-native honeysuckles, which are garden escapees that can be detrimental to biodiversity in the wild. Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions. This week we will be at Huncoat East woodland carrying out a deadhedging session. Tasks include coppicing hazel for material, using axes to chip cut wood to a point, hammering stakes into the ground, and layering lengths of wood between the stakes to establish a dead-hedge. The Friends of Arden Hall & The Coppice are running monthly volunteer sessions to get the community involved at Peel Park & the Coppice LNR. Meet at the Peel Park Bowling Pavilion.
