Tree Maintenance at Fern Gore
Join our Community TreeACTION Officer Helen for a practical session involving various tree maintenance tasks, to help our young trees next to Fern Gore Avenue that were planted through the TreeScapes initiative in 2022. We will be checking on all the trees, removing any vegetation such as grass, rushes and brambles that might outcompete the trees, and fixing/replacing any wonky or broken stakes and shelters. Unfortunately many of the Ash trees at Brookside are infected with the deadly ash dieback fungus (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus). Research lead by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew suggests that up to 85% of UK ash trees will die from the disease.
