Willow Coppicing – Hyndburn’s Nature Reserve Volunteers session @Jackhouse nature reserve
We will be coppicing some willow trees. Join us for our new Hyndburn's Nature Reserves project! There will be fortnightly conservation volunteers sessions at Jackhouse nature reserve, Wednesdays. Join our Community TreeACTION Officer Helen for a practical session at our new 'Tree Nursery' Allotment at Miller Fold! We will be stratifying tree seeds, so they can acclimatise over winter and germinate in the spring. Secondary tasks include removing existing plants in beds to make room for tree growing. Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions. This week, we will be at Woodnook Vale LNR. We'll be creating habitat piles from the brash left over from the recent felling works. Tasks include using hand tools like loppers and bow saws to create neat habitat piles from felled trees. Can you help us tidy up the PROSPECTS Community Tree Nursery? Schools, staff, volunteers and community groups have been busy collecting seeds, nuts and berries to be grown in the nursery. The Friends of Arden Hall & The Coppice are running monthly volunteer sessions to get the community involved at Peel Park & the Coppice LNR. On Saturday 15th November, (9:30am-11:30am,) the Friends group will be creating habitat piles. This involves piling up logs, sticks, and other cut vegetation which invertebrates, amphibians, small mammals, and birds can use for food and shelter. Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions. This week, we will be at Huncoat East woodland carrying out some coppicing work. This woodland has an abundance of Hazel that is a fair few years out of coppice rotation.
