Whinney Hill – Pond Meadow Scythe + Seed Collection
Tuesday, September 23 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions.
This week we will be back at Whinney Hill woodland carrying out meadow maintenance. This time we will be at the pond meadow. This is quite a big job so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Recently, the locally rare ‘Common Blue’ butterfly has been recorded during a butterfly survey, so management will be aimed and promoting its health. Tasks include scything large swathes of meadow and deliberately avoiding areas that contain large amounts of Trefoil species (The food and host plant of the Common Blue). Once the scything has been completed, arisings will be removed from the area to promote wildflower growth.
This will be followed by a Trefoil sp seed collection and sowing.
We will be meeting at the Livingstone Road entrance to the site, BB5 5BS (Just next to the Livingstone Road Allotments).
Please note steel-toe capped boots are mandatory for those wishing to operate the scythe. Those who do not have any during the session can still assist via raking arisings.
