Whinney Hill – Hyndburn’s Woodlands
Tuesday, October 22, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions. This week, we will be at Whinney Hill woodland carrying out some maintenance on the butterfly glade located at the top of the woodland. Tasks include using scythes to clear the areas around the glade (as the majority has already been scythed) and sowing yellow rattle seeds. Yellow rattle parasitises grass and so is a handy species for maintaining glades.
Tools, gloves and PPE will be provided. Please wear sturdy boots, long sleeves and full length trousers as we may be working around brambles and nettles. Waterproofs may be needed, depending on the weather. Please remember to bring spare water this activity can be quite demanding.
We will be meeting at the end of Livingstone road, BB5 5BS (Just next to the allotments). Staff will be in orange high-vis. There is on-street parking available.
