This week, we will be at Huncoat East woodland carrying out some coppicing work. This woodland has an abundance of Hazel that is a fair few years out of coppice rotation. We will be using hand tools like bow saws and loppers to properly coppice hazel, and build ‘dragon’s nests’ around the stool to discourage grazing, which in turn will promote growth.

We will also be using some of the coppiced material to make repairs to the dead hedge and the outdoor learning area, along with potentially extending the dead hedge.

We will be meeting on the layby on Altham Lane, BB5 5US (27 Altham Lane on Google Maps, just after the motorway bridge).
