SUMMARY:Whinney Hill - Hyndburn's Woodlands
DESCRIPTION:Join Hyndburn’s Woodlands Officer Brandon for weekly practical conservation sessions. This week\, we will be back at Whinney Hill woodland carrying out some Invasive Non-Native Species removal. Volunteers of the Memorial Park project will be familiar with the work\, as we will be removing a large stand of Laurel and Japanese Laurel. \nTools\, gloves and PPE will be provided. Please wear sturdy boots\, long sleeves and full length trousers as we may be working around brambles and nettles. Waterproofs may be needed\, depending on the weather. \nWe will be meeting at the carpark on Livingstone Road\, BB5 5BS (Next to the Livingstone Road allotments on Google Maps). Staff will be in orange hi-vis. DESCRIPTION:Join Sonja to learn new gardening skills\, socialise and relax in nature while supporting our productive community allotment! \nWe’ll be pruning the gooseberry bushes and planting lettuce and rashish in the polytunnel. \nLocation: Miller Fold Community Allotment\, off Miller Fold Avenue\, Accrington\, BB5 ONT\nMeeting place: The junction between Woodview Drive and Miller Fold Avenue (what3words: stooping.conquests.topping) \nNo experience needed. Snacks\, brews\, and a warm welcome at each session! Everyone welcome. \n  \nThe closest bus stop is ‘St Oswalds RC’ which is a 3 minute walk away and is served by the A1 bus service form Accrington. \nAccess is moderate with some unseen slip/trip hazards underfoot\, however there are places to sit on the allotment. SUMMARY:Hazel Coppicing at Brookside
DESCRIPTION:Join our Brookside Development Office Alice for a session of traditional copping. Using hand tools\, we will be cutting back the hazel on site to create a mixed habitat for wildlife. The material gathered will also be used onsite for future restoration work. \nWe meet at the Noticeboard by the Stanhill Road entrance to the site at 10am (see the map below) \n \nAll are welcome but under 18s must be supervised by an adult. \nWaterproofs\, boots\, and sturdy clothes are highly recommended.
