Benefits of Volunteering

Why volunteer for PROSPECTS?

Volunteering with us on our volunteer work events can provide many benefits for you and for your environment, including:

  • Improve your fitness and well-being by exercising more in the outdoors
  • Meeting new people and socialising more
  • Learn new skills which might help improve your employment prospects
  • Protect the local environment
  • Help to raise awareness of environmental issues

What does volunteering OUTDOORS involve?

Volunteer work with PROSPECTS usually involves practical work in the outdoors on certain project sites, such as:

  • Tree planting and woodland management work
  • Working on the Meadoway community allotment
  • Carrying out footpath maintenance work on a nature trail
  • Improving habitat for wildlife at a local Nature Reserve
  • Creating a new wildflower meadow.

The volunteer work is usually not too physically demanding and even though the work events last for 4 to 5 hours in total, you could just stay for a couple of hours if you preferred. You will receive training from us so you know how to do the work, and our staff will always be on site to help.

Do I have to bring anything?

We will provide all the necessary tools and equipment to carry out the work but you’ll need to bring along:

  • Waterproofs and sunhat
  • Extra warm clothes (in winter)
  • Work boots, preferably steel toe-capped
  • Lunch and enough to drink (e.g. at least a litre of water on a hot day)

If you don’t have any waterproofs or work boots, please let us know and we will be able to provide you with them for the day.

How do I get there?

All volunteers need to make their own way to the work site. In some cases, where the work site is quite a distance from Accrington, we will try to provide transport for the volunteers.

How do I get involved?

Please contact us on 01254 230348 if you would like to get involved. We will then give you directions and any other information you will need.
