Woodnook Willow Trail

65 people were involved with creating a willow sculpture trail which was the original idea of Baxenden Community Forum.

St Paul's Barnfield Scouts, St Johns Baxenden Primary School, an Asian ladies walking group and other volunteers helped to create small and large sculptures for the trail including a spider, honey bee and dragonflies. 12 students from Hollins Technology College worked with us over the course of 6 weeks to learn about Woodnook Vale and to help make an owl from willow.

Jeff Allen and Joe Gregory, local willow weavers have made an owl, dog walker and dog, stag and arbour amongst other sculptures which have been chosen to reflect wildlife and how people use the Vale.
Everyone who got involved made willow lanterns which came out on the day of the launch event which was great fun. Drummers and dancers entertained everyone and as the sun went down we lit our lanterns (with battery powered tea lights of course!) and made our way along the trail.

8 new benches have also been installed so you can sit, rest, picnic or just contemplate the surroundings. Funding for the project was secured from Awards for All, Green Partnership Award and a generous donation from Trinity Community Church.
